Job Purpose

Provide transportation of materials or products with a heavy truck, assure on-time physical delivery of goods to the customer and ensure guaranteed minimum delivery times in line with the business strategy and requirements, corporate guidelines and policies

Perform scheduled nightly linehaul movements between Kingston and Montego Bay ensuring strict adherence to transit schedules, security protocols, and network connectivity requirements for inbound and outbound DHL shipments.

Differentiator

  • Individual contributor with the ability to work under moderate supervision

Key Tasks

  • Drive truck (light or heavy) within a city or industrial area to transport and deliver goods to and from designated locations, may include long distances
  • Loading and unloading of goods
  • Manage freight documents
  • Understand traffic patterns, alternative routes, traffic regulations and driving conditions in order to meet customer and organizational time requirements
  • Ability to use and understand supporting route planning technology
  • Assist with meeting technical and operational conditions for the truck and loading unit
  • Support with preventive maintenance of the vehicle and minor in-transit repairs in case of failures
  • Report any suspected breach of security or unusual happenings to supervisor
  • Follow legislative/ regulatory processes and company driving standards
  • Check and escalate recurring routine issues faced during delivery to supervisor
  • Execute fixed nightly linehaul trips between Kingston and Montego Bay distribution points
  • Adhere to strict departure and arrival cut-off times to maintain network integrity
  • Coordinate with hub teams for timely loading/unloading to avoid linehaul delays
  • Maintain strict adherence to DHL network schedules and escalation procedures for delays
  • Provide real-time updates to control tower/dispatch on trip status, delays, or incidents

  • Explain facts, practices, policies, etc. to others within the organization adhering to narrowly defined procedures, standards and guidelines
  • Support and interact primarily with colleagues of own team
  • Communicate information that requires some explanation or interpretation
  • Address task-related issues appropriately to maintain work relationships
  • Interface with operations teams in Kingston and Montego Bay
  • Coordinate with KIN and MBJ scheduling, and exceptions
  • Liaise with security teams as required

Qualifications & Key Requirements

Education Level

Vocational/Specialized/Technical/Certification

Experience Level

Valid Open General Driver’s License with minimum 5 years heavy-duty driving experience

Proven Experience In Long-distance Or Linehaul Transportation Preferred

Clean driving record with no major traffic violations

Ability to operate during night hours on a consistent schedule

Basic mechanical knowledge of heavy-duty vehicles

Familiarity with Jamaica road network (Kingston–Montego Bay corridor strongly preferred)

Defensive driving certification preferred

Background/security clearance (if required for DHL compliance)

Working Conditions

Night shift role with fixed or rotating schedules

Pre-Trip / Post-Trip Compliance

Conduct detailed pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections

Ensure fuel levels, tires, brakes, and lights are roadworthy prior to departure

Report any mechanical defects immediately and ensure no unsafe vehicle is dispatched
