In this energetic role, you will assist with the operation of garbage trucks, support waste collection processes, and ensure efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible disposal of municipal and commercial waste. Responsibilities
- Assist the driver with loading, unloading, and securing waste materials in compliance with safety standards
- Support the operation of various types of trucks including front loader, rear loader, roll-off, dump trucks, and flatbeds
- Help with the safe handling of solid waste materials, including hazardous materials regulations when applicable
- Perform routine safety checks on trucks and equipment, ensuring adherence to DOT (Department of Transportation), air brake, and state transportation regulations
- Maintain cleanliness of trucks and work area throughout the shift
- Support the driver in navigating routes safely using defensive driving techniques and following all traffic laws
- Assist with manual lifting tasks involving heavy loads and bulky waste items to ensure efficient collection
Requirements
- Ability to perform heavy lifting regularly and work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Mechanical knowledge or interest in truck operations is a plus
- Valid driver’s license with commercial driving experience preferred; familiarity with manual transmission is advantageous
- Knowledge of front-end loaders, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, or roll-off trucks is beneficial but not required—training will be provided
- Understanding of hazardous materials regulations and solid waste management practices is desirable
- Commitment to safety protocols including defensive driving techniques and adherence to DOT and state transportation regulations
- Previous experience as a delivery driver or in municipal waste management is a plus but not mandatory
- Strong teamwork skills with excellent communication abilities
