Urgent: Flatbed Driver (Full-time) Jobs in East Windsor, CT at Southern Auto Auction

Position Summary

Responsible for the safe loading, transportation, delivery, and unloading of vehicles utilizing a flatbed truck. Ensures all vehicles are properly secured, inspected, and transported in accordance with company safety standards. Provides professional service to customers, dealers, and business partners while maintaining efficient vehicle movement throughout company facilities and designated transport routes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Daily Duties

  • Safely operate a flatbed truck to transport vehicles between auction locations, customer locations, dealerships, repair facilities, and other designated destinations.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of truck, trailer, equipment, and securement devices.
  • Load and unload vehicles onto flatbed equipment using winches, ramps, and other approved loading methods.
  • Properly secure vehicles using chains, straps, wheel restraints, and other approved tie-down equipment.
  • Conduct vehicle condition inspections before loading and after delivery, documenting any existing or newly observed damage.
  • Verify vehicle identification numbers (VINs), stock numbers, and delivery information to ensure accurate transportation.
  • Maintain communication with dispatch and management regarding delivery schedules, delays, route changes, and customer needs.
  • Perform basic vehicle assessments to determine safe loading procedures for non-running or disabled vehicles.
  • Assist with jump starts, tire inflation, fuel delivery, and other minor services as needed to facilitate vehicle movement.
  • Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of truck, trailer, and equipment.
  • Follow all DOT regulations, company policies, and safety procedures.
  • Complete required transportation logs, inspection reports, and delivery documentation accurately and timely.
  • Notify management immediately of accidents, equipment issues, safety concerns, or vehicle damage.

Auction Activities

  • Employees are required to assist during auction sale days by performing a variety of activities, many of which may not be directly related to normal job responsibilities.
  • Assist with vehicle movement and transportation needs to support auction operations and customer service.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to safely operate a flatbed truck and related equipment. Regularly required to climb, bend, kneel, reach, and secure vehicles using chains, straps, and tie-down equipment. Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow. Frequent entering and exiting of vehicles and truck cab is required.

ScheduleFull-time; overtime may be required based on business demands. Workdays may exceed 8 hours depending on transportation schedules, auction activity, weather conditions, and customer needs.

Knowledge and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience operating flatbed trucks, rollback carriers, or vehicle transport equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper vehicle loading, unloading, and securement techniques.
  • General automotive knowledge and ability to assess vehicle transport needs.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and meet delivery deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record. CDL preferred but not required, depending on equipment operated.
  • Ability to safely operate winches, chains, straps, and other vehicle securement equipment.
