General Description
The furniture mover/truck driver is responsible for picking up donations of furniture (with a partner) from homes and businesses, and dropping off furniture to Turning Point’s housing units.
General Task Areas
- Implement agency and program mission and empowerment philosophy.
- Administer and implement Turning Point’s policies and procedures.
- Maintain agency policy on confidentiality.
- Ensure the highest level of customer service and donor relations. Interact with donors to answer questions and solve problems. Provide a friendly, service-oriented environment.
- Pick-up furniture donations as scheduled by Chief Development Officer.
- Responsible for planning route and preparing maps for pick-ups to ensure timely, accurate and efficient pick-ups.
- Responsible for loading and unloading donated furniture and miscellaneous items on truck, taking care not to damage donor’s property, the donated goods, and Turning Point’s property
- Responsible for maintaining adequate fuel supply and the cleanliness of the inside and outside of the truck.
- Responsible Turning Point’s safety procedures and utilizing the proper safety equipment as required.
- Responsible for the secure and safe operation of Turning Point’s truck and equipment.
- Report any problems with the vehicle immediately.
- Prior to pick-up, prepare furniture department for new items. Rearrange and/or rotate furniture and merchandise as required to ensure optimal traffic flow, display and safety
- Assist with the removal of purchased furniture and the disposal of unwanted items
- Be aware of and adhere to Turning Point’s policies with regard to staff purchases.
- Keep Chief Development Officer informed of all potential problems, incidents and donor concerns/comments.
- Participate in applicable staff, committee meetings, and other meetings deemed necessary by Turning Point.
- Conduct relationships with Turning Point and agency staff and volunteers to promote mutual respect and a positive and productive work environment.
- Notify the Director of any emergency situations that may affect Turning Point staff and clients.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Chief Development Officer.
Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
- Knowledge of shipping and receiving practices
- Understanding of vehicle care and maintenance
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain a valid DOT Medical Card.
Working Conditions
Other Requirements
Must have reliable transportation, insurance, a valid Michigan Driver’s License, and a good driving record. Must pass central registry and criminal background check as a condition of employment.
