Transit Driver
TITLE: DRIVER
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 01, 2022
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-time
DEPARTMENT: Natchez Transit System
REPORTS TO: Transit Supervisor
SALARY RANGE: $11.00 hr.
PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The City of Natchez Transit Driver will be responsible for providing transportation services to City passengers. The individual will provide the community and businesses with the very best economical and reliable transportation services possible.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Responsibilities will include transporting passengers to and from assigned locations; performing daily inspections and minor maintenance to the vehicles; and, delivering food or supplies as required.
Essential Job Functions
- Drives a bus for transporting riders to applicable locations, including special events.
- Performs pre- and post-trip inspection activities to identify maintenance records.
- Provides courier services including delivering mail, food, supplies, and other materials.
- Prepares and maintain a variety of operational records and logs.
- Performs routine cleaning and maintenance activities.
Other Duties
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) and 1 year experience as a professional driver or driving a large vehicle.
Licensing and Certifications
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with P (passenger endorsement)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, And ABILITIES
- Safe driving principles and practices.
- Cleaning principles and practices.
- Basic maintenance inspection principles.
- Customer services principles.
- Recordkeeping principles.
- Reading maps to following routes.
- Conducting bus inspections and recognizing defects.
- Completing forms, reports, and logs.
- Performing cleaning duties.
- Maintaining records and logs.
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor the public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.
I.physical Requirements
- Occasional heavy work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/ or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and /or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Incumbents may be subjective to fumes, odors, and extreme temperatures.
