Skipper Driver Jobs in Elizabethtown, USA at Darling Ingredients
The Skipper Driver is responsible for operating a commercial motor vehicle to pick up raw material with attention to prompt and efficient customer service. The driver completes an assigned list of duties and services that Darling Ingredients offers within an allotted scheduled time slot, fills in for other drivers as needed, and must hold a Class A CDL to utilize the required equipment for each day’s route.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Responsible for all pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of equipment.
- Operate any commercial motor vehicle safely, obeying all traffic laws and DOT regulations.
- Use hydraulic controls to operate various trailer types.
- Communicate professionally with management, drivers, vendors, and others encountered during the shift.
- Problem‑solve issues independently and willingly.
- Act as an integral member of the fleet team, maintaining professionalism at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Class A CDL license with a valid tanker endorsement.
- Minimum two years of experience operating a semi‑truck with trailer and/or tanker.
- Available to work both day and night shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of Class A driving experience with tanker preference.
- Prior route experience in a customer‑oriented environment.
- Strong time‑management skills to work efficiently while prioritizing safety.
- Basic knowledge of tractor and/or trailer maintenance and minor repairs.
- Thorough understanding of equipment for proper pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and DOT regulations relevant to commercial vehicle operations in the area.
Physical Demands
- Frequent walking, standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and crouching.
- Ability to focus and concentrate over long periods.
- Occasional pushing, pulling, or moving up to 100 lbs.
Work Environment
Job functions are performed at a plant, in the field, or in the cab of a commercial motor vehicle.
