Job Summary

The Scout Driver plays a critical role in supporting efficient waste collection operations by scouting service routes, identifying obstacles, confirming bin placement, reporting illegal dumping, report damage property and equipment and assisting with customer service issues. This position ensures route readiness, sequential pickups and supports safety, service reliability, and compliance. May assist in organizing outreach bin base stations

Duties

  • Pre-Scout collection routes to identify obstructions (e.g., parked vehicles, construction, road closures).
  • Verify bin placement and accessibility for scheduled pickups
  • Report illegal dumping, contamination, or unauthorized waste to driver, dispatch or supervisor
  • Assist with missed pickups, bin overflows, or damaged containers
  • Take photos and notes for documentation for damaged bins, equipment and customer property damages. Essential for customer service follow-up
  • Coordinate with dispatchers and drivers to relay route issues or changes in real time
  • Ensure safe driving practices at all times and comply with DOT and company safety policies
  • Maintain daily logs and reports on route conditions and scouting activities
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any safety or mechanical issues. Daily complete VCR forms and documents.
  • Support Field audits and customer service verfications as needed
  • uses two-way radio, iPad tablets and documentation for reporting, logging and recording
  • May assist in setup, organize and clean bin base station locations
  • Does Minor repairs, service and maintenance for bins at customer locations
  • Secures all loads for safe travel onto roads and highways
  • Wear assigned safety personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Does other related duties as assigned

Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Valid Hawaii Drivers License with Clean Driving Record
  • Knowledge of local streets and neighborhoods
  • Prior experience in waste management, delivery driving, or field inspections is a plus
  • Ability to operate a smartphone or tablet to record data and communicate
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally via two way radio and cell phone devices
  • Strong observation, time management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in outdoor environments and all weather conditions
  • Must pass DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening

Physical Requirements

  • May operate pickup trucks, forklifts, flatbed and other job related equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Able to work in varying weather conditions (heat, rain, cold)
  • Frequent bending, lifting, pulling and standing for long periods

Work Environment

  • Exposure to odors, noise, dust, traffic and potentially hazardous materials
  • Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Driving for Extended periods with frequent stops
  • Will require early morning or late evening hours
  • Use of Safety Gear and company issued uniform required
  • Outdoor fieldwork in residential, commercial or industrial areas

Pay: From $22.00 per hour
