Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses and paratransit vehicles along designated routes, adhering to traffic laws and safety protocols
- Ensure the safety and well-being of children, seniors, or passengers with special needs during pickup, transit, and drop-off
- Communicate clearly with students, parents, caregivers, and colleagues to coordinate schedules and address concerns
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle mechanical condition, including brakes, lights, tires, and safety equipment
- Manage behavior onboard by applying positive behavior management techniques to maintain a calm and respectful environment
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, especially those requiring additional support or childcare assistance
- Complete accurate logs of trips, mileage, maintenance issues, and incidents as required by company policies
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred but not mandatory depending on jurisdiction
- Proven experience in bus driving or commercial driving roles; familiarity with school bus driving highly desirable
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities
- Mechanical knowledge to perform basic vehicle inspections and troubleshoot minor issues
- Ability to work with children or elderly populations with patience and empathy; experience in childcare or senior care is advantageous
- Excellent customer service skills to create a welcoming environment for passengers of all ages
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques to handle challenging situations onboard effectively
- Multilingual skills to assist non-English speaking passengers are considered an asset
