– Compensation Information –
Licensed ready mix drivers (CDL B w/Air Brakes) will start at $25/hour during the training period (typically one to two weeks). After training is complete, wage increases to $27/hour.
Anticipated start date is immediately upon job offer.

As a ready mix truck driver, you will operate a heavy diesel truck (Gross Vehicle Weight over 26,000 pounds) equipped with auxiliary concrete mixer, consisting of a revolving drum to mix the concrete components during transport to construction sites. You will be responsible for maintaining the materials in a liquid state through agitation or turning of the drum, until delivery at its destination. Once on site, you will maneuver the truck appropriately to feed the concrete mixture to designated areas with a gravity fed chute on the back center of the truck.
– Locations –
We operate out of 6 plants in the Greater Des Moines metro area: Ankeny, De Soto, Elkhart, Grimes, Indianola, and Norwalk (HQ). At this time, we are hiring drivers for our De Soto, Elkhart, and Grimes locations only.
– Duties –
- Maneuver truck into loading position for filling (hopper at plant) and unloading positions at customer job sites.
- Operate mixer to produce concrete from sand, gravel, cement, and water. Adjust mixture (slump) as requested by customers at job sites.
- Assemble chutes and operate levers to release concrete per customer request.
- Clean truck after loading and after each delivery to prevent concrete from hardening in mixer and on truck surfaces.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip truck inspections.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or coolant and performing minor repairs.
- Fill out delivery paperwork, collect payment from customers when required and keep records of daily activities.
- Monitor truck and company equipment to ensure proper operation and professional appearance.
- Spray truck surfaces with protective compounds to resist concrete adhesion and for specialized cleaning.
- Operate equipment, such as truck mixer controls, CB radios, mobile phones, and global positioning systems (GPS) equipment to exchange necessary information with dispatch, supervisors, or other drivers.
- Follow all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Drive trucks to any weigh stations along routes before and after loading and in compliance with state regulations.
- Assist with various plant operations, such as general carpentry, maintenance and mechanical work as needed.
- Occasionally operate dump trucks and other plant equipment.
- Additional duties as assigned.
– Functional Demands Related to Essential Job Functions –
- Lift and carry chutes weighing up to 52 pounds from hanger on side of truck to mixer discharge chute.
- Manually open truck hood, requiring up to 75 pounds pushing force at a height of approximately 48 inches.
- Climb truck ladder up to 9 feet to clean hopper. Balance on railing-enclosed platform, sometimes on one foot, while leaning over hopper to spray water to wash down.
- Demonstrate good balance and agility to frequently step up/down from truck cab with step heights up to 22 inches and walk on uneven and wet/slippery surfaces at customer sites.
- Reach from ground to waist; to chest level; to shoulder level; and up to 72" above the ground.
- Operate hand tools and hose nozzle requiring an estimated grip force up to 20 pounds, often with hands raised above shoulder height.
- Sit for extended periods of time while driving to/from job sites with constant vibration and motion, typically less than 30 minutes but could be an hour or more.
– Job Qualifications –
- Minimum of Class B commercial driver license required.
- High school diploma or equivalent – preferred
- Previous concrete-related experience – preferred
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic math skills – required
- Ability to read and interpret mixer truck gauges – required
- Ability to take guidance and direction from company and job site supervisors in English – required
