Position: Postal Delivery Driver –
Location: South Woodham Ferrers Delivery Office, CM3 5YA
Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months
Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours:
37 hours per week – 5 days in 7 across Monday – Sunday – 08:00/15:00
Overview: Join Royal Mail as a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) and become the face of our trusted service, delivering letters and parcels in South Woodham Ferrers.
Shift pattern: You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand. You’ll be required to work Sundays on a rota basis.

- Sort letters and parcels at the delivery office
- Deliver post by van and on foot in your local area
- Build relationships with customers
- Work outdoors in all weathers

What to expect
This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:
- Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
- Working in all weather conditions
- Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
- Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods
About you
We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:
- A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
- Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
- Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
- Reliable and self-motivated
- Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
- Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
- Comfortable working outdoors and independently
