DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports roadway maintenance and safe travel by operating equipment, performing manual labor, and following proper safety procedures. The work involves hands-on tasks in all seasons and supports the upkeep of highways, bridges, and roadside areas. As a PennDOT CDL Operator, you will perform the following duties:

• 
  Snow Removal Operations: Operate trucks with plow attachments to clear snow and ice from roadways and bridges during winter operations
• 
  Equipment Operation: Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned equipment to support maintenance activities
• 
  Traffic Control: Perform flagger duties to guide traffic safely through work zones
• 
  Manual Labor Tasks: Use hand and power tools to clean culverts, cut brush, erect signs, repair guiderails, and complete other maintenance work
• 
  Equipment Maintenance: Make field adjustments, perform minor repairs, clean equipment, and assist mechanics with repair tasks
• 
  Safety Compliance: Observe work areas, identify hazards, report incidents, and use protective equipment to maintain a safe environment

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Dual shifts, overtime, and travel may be required. Work hours subject to seasonal change.
• 
  Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

• Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

• All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed and Manual (E) restriction removed.
• All positions require possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
• This position requires the ability to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
• All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
• All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
• Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
