Diesel Technician Level II

As a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II, you will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Under supervision, you will perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs and continue to develop advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. You will comply with all company policies and achieve high level performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, determine relevance of information, and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation on the company‑issued service truck.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with clients to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, and satisfy their expectations.
  • Prioritize tasks efficiently to meet time allocations and productivity goals.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, and lifting devices.
  • Document work according to company standards and upload pictures and details on Repair Orders using the company‑issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Manage your daily schedule with a high degree of independence.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and adhere to standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, and repair findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with 3 years of experience in a related field. Candidates with an additional degree or certification beyond HS/GED or with 5 years of experience may also apply.
  • Possess the necessary hand tools to perform job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
  • Successfully complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical.
  • Provide a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining before the expiration, or complete a DOT physical if less than four months remaining.
  • Be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a valid Driver Qualification File.
