Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Lowboy Driver to join our dynamic transportation team. In this role, you will operate specialized heavy-duty trailers known as lowboys, which are designed to carry oversized and heavy equipment safely across various routes. Your expertise in commercial truck driving, route navigation, and cargo handling will ensure timely deliveries while adhering to all safety and regulatory standards. Responsibilities
- Safely operate lowboy trailers, including tractor-trailers with manual transmissions, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload heavy equipment and oversized cargo using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment such as forklifts when necessary.
- Plan and follow efficient routes utilizing GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery times and fuel efficiency.
- Secure loads properly on flatbed, refrigerated, tanker, or roll-off trucks to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor-trailer, checking brakes, tires, lights, and safety equipment to maintain vehicle safety standards.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo details, and delivery documentation in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and team members to coordinate deliveries and resolve any logistical issues promptly.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience operating tractor-trailers, including lowboy trailers, with knowledge of manual transmission vehicles.
- Familiarity with various trailer types such as flatbed, refrigerated trailer, tanker, dump truck, or roll-off truck is preferred.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA regulations, hazardous materials regulations (if applicable), and DOT safety standards.
- Ability to handle heavy loads manually or using equipment like forklifts; experience with logistics cargo handling is a plus.
- Excellent route planning skills utilizing GPS navigation tools for efficient deliveries.
- Physical ability to load/unload freight safely and perform manual handling tasks as required.
