Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Lowboy Driver to join our transportation team. This role involves operating specialized lowboy trailers to transport heavy equipment, machinery, and oversized loads across various routes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of commercial driving regulations, safety protocols, and efficient route management. Responsibilities
- Operate lowboy trailers with manual transmissions to transport heavy equipment, machinery, and oversized loads safely and efficiently.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor-trailer, ensuring all safety features are functional and compliant with regulations.
- Load and unload freight using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or roll-off trucks, adhering to safety procedures.
- Plan and follow optimal routes for delivery, considering load specifications, traffic conditions, and delivery schedules.
- Secure loads properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit, utilizing appropriate tie-downs and restraints.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage logs, inspection reports, and load documentation.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local transportation laws, including hours-of-service regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and team members regarding delivery status or issues encountered on routes.
- Assist with loading or unloading freight as needed for specific deliveries or operational requirements.
- Ensure the safe operation of refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tanker trucks, dump trucks, or other specialized equipment as required.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL A) with a clean driving record.
- At least one (1) year proven experience in truck driving, specifically with tractor-trailers such as lowboys or flatbeds.
- Ability to transport heavy civil construction equipment to job sites safely and securely.
- Ability to load & unload freight efficiently using forklifts or other handling equipment.
- Knowledge of safety standards related to heavy hauling and oversized loads.
- Strong understanding of transportation regulations and compliance requirements.
- Physical ability to perform inspections and handle heavy equipment safely.
