Hydro Vac Operator Jobs in Charleston, USA at Landmark Construction Company, Inc.
The Hydro Vac Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of hydro vacuum excavation trucks to perform non‑destructive digging, day lighting, potholing, and other excavation-related activities. This position requires strict adherence to safety standards, accurate job documentation, and effective communication with clients and team members on job sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate hydro vac truck and related equipment to safely expose underground utilities, pipelines, and other infrastructure.
- Perform daily inspections, maintenance, and cleaning of the hydro vac unit to ensure safe operation and regulatory compliance.
- Load, haul, and properly dispose of debris, soil, and other materials in accordance with company and environmental guidelines.
- Follow all company and industry safety procedures, including confined space, traffic control, and hazard communication.
- Communicate with site supervisors and clients to confirm work scope and ensure satisfaction.
- Maintain detailed and accurate job logs, service records, and safety documentation.
- Assist with setup and teardown of work sites, including proper signage and safety barriers.
- Adhere to DOT regulations regarding vehicle operation, logs, and inspections.
Qualifications
- Experience:
1–3 years operating hydro vac or vacuum truck equipment preferred.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
- Licenses:
Valid Class A or B CDL with clean driving record and tanker endorsement. - Certifications:
OSHA 10 or 30, First Aid/CPR, and confined space training preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of hydro vac systems.
- Excellent awareness of underground utility safety practices.
- Ability to read maps, blueprints, and utility locate markings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Commitment to a strong safety culture and continuous improvement.
- Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment, safety glasses, hard hat with chin strap, reflective safety vest, gloves, ear protection, face shield, safety toe boots.
- Outdoor, construction, and industrial environments.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, moving equipment, and varying weather conditions.
- May require overtime, weekends, and travel to various job sites.
