Position Summary
Operates and maintains medium duty equipment such as tandem dump truck, skid steer, self-propelled belt loader and tractor with large mower, performing a range of manual labor duties including clearing right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing roads, and supporting traffic control during maintenance operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain medium duty equipment such as tandem dump truck, skid steer, self-propelled belt loader, and tractor with large mower.
- Perform maintenance tasks including clearing right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repairing bridges, paving driveways, and laying sideline or crossline pipe.
- Operate 5 to 10 yard standard dump truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials, and debris.
- Flag traffic during road repairs to control traffic flow and protect workers, motorists, and equipment.
- Assist in emergencies and inclement weather operations, including work outside normal schedule.
- Provide 24-hour on-call availability when crew is in on-call status.
- Assist in the operation of backhoe, excavator, motor grader, slope mower, spreader, tractor with ditcher, and front-end loader.
- Operate and maintain electric/gas-powered tools, including chainsaws and pole saws, and use hand tools in various phases of roadway maintenance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Six (6) months of related work experience, or an approved acceptable equivalence.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Must attain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb, balance, kneel, push, pull, and manipulate objects of varying sizes, shapes, weights, and materials.
- Must be able to walk for extended periods, navigate rough and uneven terrain, and work in close proximity to motorized traffic and natural environmental hazards.
- Will be required to work outside normal schedule, especially during inclement weather or emergencies.
- Frequently exposed to outdoor environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease.
