Position: Highway Maintenance Worker II – Medium Equipment Operator (61032191)
- Operates medium equipment such as tandem dump truck in hauling of asphalt used in patching potholes on state-maintained roads; uses hand tools in leveling of asphalt during pothole patching operations.
- Operates heavy equipment such as front-end loader in loading and unloading of maintenance materials such as asphalt, dirt, coquina, and concrete pipe.
- Performs duties using manual labor in maintenance tasks such as clearing right of ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repairing bridges, and paving driveways.
- Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic, making work sites safe for workers and traveling public.
- Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, may include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
- A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position.
- Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Demands
- Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
- Walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
- May be required to work outside normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
- Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
Additional Information
- May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
