Position Overview
Roman Chariots LLC is seeking a highly dependable Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager / Rescue Driver to oversee daily vehicle inspections, ensure DOT compliance, and provide route support throughout the day.
This position is critical to maintaining the safety, compliance, and operational readiness of our fleet. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in law enforcement, military service, corrections, transportation safety, fleet management, or a similar field where attention to detail and accountability are essential.
Each morning, the Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager will conduct thorough inspections of all company vehicles before dispatch. This includes documenting vehicle conditions with photographs, verifying required safety equipment, identifying maintenance concerns, and ensuring all vehicles meet company and DOT standards.
Once the fleet has departed, the remainder of the shift will be spent serving as a Rescue Driver, assisting delivery teams in the field by taking stops from drivers, covering routes, responding to breakdowns, and helping ensure drivers complete their scheduled 10-hour workday.
Primary ResponsibilitiesFleet Safety & Compliance
- Conduct daily inspections of all cargo vans and box trucks before dispatch.
- Photograph and document vehicle conditions daily.
- Verify vehicle readiness and DOT compliance requirements.
- Inspect tires, lights, mirrors, fluid levels, safety equipment, and vehicle cleanliness.
- Identify, document, and report vehicle defects and maintenance concerns.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and compliance documentation.
- Ensure drivers are operating safe and compliant vehicles.
- Assist management with fleet safety initiatives and compliance audits.
Rescue Driver Duties
- Remain available throughout the day to provide route support.
- Operate cargo vans and box trucks safely and professionally.
- Assist drivers who are behind schedule by taking deliveries and route assignments.
- Respond to vehicle breakdowns and operational emergencies.
- Cover open routes as needed.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and management regarding route status.
Preferred QualificationsHighly Preferred
- Former Law Enforcement Officer
- Former Military Police or Military Veteran
- Former Corrections Officer
- Former DOT Enforcement Officer
- Fleet Safety or Transportation Compliance Experience
Required
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to operate cargo vans and box trucks.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and enforce safety standards consistently.
- Comfortable using smartphones and mobile applications for documentation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
