Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with automatic and manual transmissions across assigned routes, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Load, secure, and unload freight such as refrigerated goods, flatbed cargo, tankers, or roll-off containers using appropriate equipment like forklifts when necessary.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) standards.
- Manage route driving efficiently to meet delivery schedules while maintaining a high standard of safety and professionalism.
- Load and unload freight at various locations, ensuring proper handling of specialized cargo including refrigerated items or hazardous materials when applicable.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate delivery times, resolve issues promptly, and provide exceptional service.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage logs, inspection reports, and load documentation for compliance purposes.
Experience
- Proven experience as a commercial driver with a valid CDL A license; experience with manual transmissions preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to operate various truck types including tractor-trailers, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, or roll-off trucks.
- Prior delivery driver experience involving freight handling, load & unload procedures, and route driving in diverse environments.
- Familiarity with forklift operation for loading/unloading cargo when necessary.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols related to trucking operations and cargo securement standards.
