Responsibilities
- Safely operate flatbed trucks, tractor-trailers, and other commercial vehicles on over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Load and unload cargo using manual handling techniques or forklift equipment when necessary, ensuring proper securing of freight including hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
- Use GPS navigation systems to plan efficient routes for timely deliveries across multiple locations.
- Transport various types of freight such as refrigerated trailers, tanker loads, or automobile transportation shipments while maintaining safety protocols.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking for hazards related to truck loading/unloading and cargo integrity.
- Document delivery details accurately in logs and reports; communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding route status or delivery issues.
- Follow all safety procedures related to hazardous materials regulations and truck driving best practices to ensure personal safety and that of others on the road.
Experience
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with clean driving record.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, particularly with flatbed trailers or tractor-trailers.
- Familiarity with logistics cargo handling, including load & unload procedures for freight, hazardous materials, or dangerous goods.
- Experience operating trucks equipped with manual transmissions and using GPS navigation systems for route planning.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards for truck driving.
- Delivery driver experience preferred, especially involving route driving across diverse terrains and delivery schedules.
- Ability to handle manual handling tasks safely; forklift certification is a plus for loading/unloading operations involving forklifts or dump trucks.
