Duties
- Safely operate Class A commercial trucks with manual transmissions, including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and refrigerated trailers.
- Navigate routes using GPS navigation systems to ensure timely deliveries while optimizing efficiency.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper handling of hazardous materials and dangerous goods in compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours and cargo details in accordance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety and readiness; report any mechanical issues promptly.
- Follow all safety protocols related to manual handling, logistics cargo handling, and securement of loads.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate delivery schedules and address any route or cargo concerns.
Experience
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving with freight deliveries.
- Familiarity with operating manual transmission trucks and handling various trailer types such as flatbeds, tankers, refrigerated trailers, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, and tractor-trailers.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations on hours of service, hazardous materials regulations, and DOT compliance standards.
- Experience loading/unloading freight manually or using equipment like forklifts; familiarity with logistics cargo handling procedures.
- Ability to safely handle dangerous goods and hazardous materials according to regulatory guidelines.
- Strong understanding of GPS navigation tools for efficient route planning.
