Job Summary
Buffalo Transportation has been proudly serving the WNY community for over 25 years! We are currently seeking a responsible and reliable CDL Paratransit Services Driver to join our growing team. In this important role, you will operate commercial-grade vehicles to safely transport passengers with mobility challenges, seniors, children, and other specialized groups as they travel to and from medical appointments in the Western New York region. All drivers return home each day, making this opportunity perfect for those with families, pets, and busy schedules! The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about driving, dedicated to safety, able to use a smartphone to navigate, and eager to serve diverse populations with professionalism and care.
**Please note that is position is paid on commission (load fee plus mileage). All pay rates are given in writing in advance and all drivers see commissions as they are earned. Hourly rates listed are averages earned in our recent payroll. What you earn will be based on your ability to navigate, personal pacing, passenger type, hours worked, etc.**
Duties
- Safely operate commercial passenger vehicles, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Effectively use cellphone applications to read trip information and navigation
- Provide courteous assistance to passengers, including help with boarding, seating arrangements, and securing mobility devices when necessary.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure mechanical soundness and report any issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, and vehicle maintenance records.
- Communicate effectively with passengers, dispatchers, and team members to coordinate schedules and address any concerns or special needs.
- Follow all safety protocols related to child care, senior care, or working with individuals with disabilities.
- Foster a welcoming environment by demonstrating excellent customer service skills and engaging in clear communication with multilingual or bilingual riders when applicable.
Requirements
- Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or school bus driving with a valid NY CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with P (passenger) endorsement
- Clean driving record–3 year abstract from DMV required to prove this
- Copy of latest DOT physical or ability to pass a new one
- Ability to use an app on a smartphone to read trip information and to navigate
- Knowledge of paratransit operations, behavior management techniques, and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
- Ability to work well with children, seniors, or individuals requiring special assistance; experience in childcare or senior care is advantageous.
- Excellent driving and adherence to safety standards at all times.
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
- Knowledge of City of Buffalo navigation is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while providing exceptional customer service.
