Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and experienced CDL Driver Class A with port experience to join our dynamic transportation team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely operating tractor-trailers to transport freight to and from port facilities, ensuring timely deliveries and pickups. Your expertise in handling various trailer types—including refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, dump truck, roll-off, and freight loads—will be essential to maintaining smooth port operations. Duties
- Safely operate commercial trucks with manual transmissions, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Load and unload freight using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or roll-off trucks, ensuring cargo integrity and safety.
- Drive different types of trailers including refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, dump trucks, and roll-off units across designated routes.
- Manage route driving responsibilities efficiently, maintaining schedules and optimizing delivery times.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor-trailer to identify any mechanical issues or safety concerns.
- Secure freight properly for transit, especially when handling sensitive or hazardous materials like refrigerated or tanker loads.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and warehouse personnel to coordinate pickups and deliveries at port facilities.
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, load details, and delivery documentation in compliance with company policies.
Experience
- Proven experience as a CDL Driver Class A with a focus on port operations or similar freight transportation roles.
- Demonstrated ability to operate manual transmission trucks safely and efficiently.
- Experience driving various trailer types including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks.
- Prior delivery driver experience with a strong understanding of load & unload procedures at ports or distribution centers.
- Familiarity with route planning and navigation in busy port environments to ensure timely deliveries.
- Ability to handle forklift operations for loading/unloading when necessary (certification preferred).
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to trucking, cargo securement, and vehicle maintenance practices.
