Local driving position with daily travel to sod farms and job sites throughout the Midlands of South Carolina.

Summary
River Bluff Farms is seeking a self-motivated and dependable CDL-A Sod Delivery Driver to facilitate the loading, transportation, delivery, and unloading of harvested sod.
This position will load pallets of sod from our farm in Springfield, SC, as well as other farms throughout the surrounding area. Sod will then be safely transported and unloaded at various job sites throughout the Midlands of South Carolina. All trailers are equipped with Moffetts to assist with loading and unloading.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of commercial driving experience, preferably operating flatbed trucks. Previous sod delivery experience is preferred but not required.
A typical workday begins around 4:00 a.m. and ends around 2:00 p.m. This position operates under the 150 air-mile radius exception outlined in FMCSR Section 395.1(e)(1).
Key Responsibilities
Sod Loading and Delivery
  • Load and secure pallets of sod at River Bluff Farms and other sod farms throughout the area.
  • Safely complete an expected average of two loads per day, with additional compensation available for additional loads completed without compromising safety or service quality.
  • Safely transport sod to residential, commercial, and other job sites throughout the Midlands of South Carolina.
  • Deliver and unload sod in confined environments, including active job sites and residential neighborhoods.
  • Safely operate a Moffett forklift to load and unload sod.
Route Planning and Transportation
  • Plan efficient delivery routes to support timely and dependable service.
  • Operate company vehicles safely and efficiently while following all applicable traffic laws and transportation regulations.
  • Communicate delivery updates, delays, or job-site concerns with the appropriate team members.
  • Adjust routes and delivery schedules as needed to support daily operations.
Equipment Inspection and Maintenance
  • Perform daily inspections of assigned trucks, trailers, and Moffetts.
  • Inspect fluids, fuel levels, tires, lights, safety equipment, and other essential vehicle components.
  • Promptly report equipment concerns, maintenance needs, damage, or safety issues.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of assigned company vehicles and equipment.
Documentation and Recordkeeping
  • Accurately complete and maintain all required delivery, inspection, and maintenance records.
  • Ensure delivery documentation is completed and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Follow all company procedures and applicable Department of Transportation requirements.
Customer Service and Professionalism
  • Represent River Bluff Farms professionally while interacting with customers, vendors, contractors, and job-site personnel.
  • Provide dependable and courteous customer service during each delivery.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with customers and team members.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude while representing the company.
Safety and Operational Compliance
  • Adhere to all company safety and operational policies and procedures.
  • Properly secure all loads before transportation.
  • Follow all applicable Department of Transportation regulations and safe-driving practices.
  • Participate in required safety meetings and training.
  • Promptly report accidents, injuries, equipment concerns, and unsafe conditions.
Qualifications
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A)
  • Valid DOT physical and medical certification
  • Driving record that meets company insurance requirements
  • Minimum of two years of CDL commercial driving experience preferred
  • Flatbed driving experience preferred
  • Previous sod delivery experience preferred but not required
  • Minimum of three years of verifiable employment history
  • Ability to safely operate or learn to operate a Moffett forklift
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
  • Ability to plan routes and complete deliveries safely and efficiently
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit and operate a commercial vehicle for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform physical activities including lifting, stooping, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, crouching, and reaching.
  • Ability to safely enter and exit trucks, trailers, and equipment throughout the workday.
  • Ability to climb as required to inspect equipment and secure loads.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions associated with driving, equipment operation, and deliveries.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
