Responsibilities
- Safely operate a range of commercial trucks including tractor-trailers with manual transmissions, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks.
- Drive long-haul routes covering 3,500+ miles weekly while adhering to all safety regulations and company policies.
- Load and unload freight efficiently using forklift skills when necessary; handle various types of cargo such as freight requiring careful handling or specialized equipment.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) standards.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, routes taken, and freight delivery details in compliance with federal regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding route updates, delivery schedules, and any issues encountered during trips.
- Manage route driving responsibilities with a focus on punctuality and safety; adapt to changing schedules or load requirements as needed.
Experience
- Proven truck driving experience with a valid CDL-A license; previous delivery driver experience preferred.
- Skilled in operating manual transmission trucks and familiar with various trailer types including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks.
- Experience in freight handling—load & unload procedures—and working with different cargo types.
- Knowledge of route planning and navigation for long-distance trips across multiple states.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance checks on tractor-trailers and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues.
- Familiarity with forklift operation is a plus for handling certain freight loads.
