Bilingual Driver – Youth Transportation Jobs in New Haven at Children’s Community Programs of CT

Many of the children you’ll drive arrived in this country alone. They’re in long-term foster care now — learning a new language, waiting on court dates that will decide their future, rebuilding a sense of home from the ground up.

In a life where so much keeps changing, the person behind the wheel can be the one thing that doesn’t — and at Children’s Community Programs of Connecticut (CCP), that person is you.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

For more than two decades, CCP has built something children and families can rely on — and we hold ourselves to that same standard with our team members. We can ask you to be a constant for children whose lives have been anything but, because the agency works to be a constant for you. The support here is real, and it’s the point — not a perk:

  • Work that’s visible and real — you’ll see the same children week after week, and you’ll see what your reliability does for them.
  • Accessible, organized leadership that protects a sustainable workload — because a burned-out adult can’t be a steady one.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family — CCP takes care of the people who take care of children.
  • A team that knows your name: a culture of belonging, recognition for the work, and culture committees where team members genuinely shape how CCP runs.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the program Clinician within CCP’s UC Long Term Foster Care program, you’ll be one of the steadier presences in these children’s week — many of them immigrant youth navigating a new country, a new language, and a legal process that will shape the rest of their lives:

  • Drive children and youth to scheduled medical and dental appointments, court hearings, school, family visitation meetings, and recreational and community activities.
  • Keep every passenger safe: supervise youth during transport, buckle younger children in securely, and assist with getting in and out of the vehicle when needed.
  • Run daily vehicle inspections, report maintenance issues promptly, and keep accurate transportation and mileage logs.
  • Coordinate schedules with case managers, clinicians, foster parents, and program staff.
  • Respond calmly to emergencies or behavioral situations, and report concerns to the Assistant Program Director and clinical team.
  • Follow all federal Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), state licensing, and CCP transportation policies, and keep client information confidential. (ORR is the federal agency responsible for the care of unaccompanied immigrant children.)
  • Be a steady, positive presence and help keep a clean, welcoming vehicle for the children you carry.

Who succeeds in this role:

Reliable drivers who take pride in an on-time arrival, who stay calm under pressure, and who want the stability of a set schedule with full-time benefits over the unpredictability of gig work.

What You’ll Bring To The Table

Required:

  • A valid Connecticut driver’s license with a “V” (Student Transportation Vehicle) endorsement — the State of Connecticut credential for transporting children and youth. Don’t hold it yet? You can be hired and obtain it within 90 days of your start date, and CCP will guide you through the process.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
