Pave Talent is placing Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Safety Drivers on behalf of a leading developer in the autonomous vehicle industry. You will be behind the wheel of cutting-edge self-driving vehicles on Austin roads, monitoring system performance, collecting real-world data, and intervening when needed. This is not a gig. It is a full-time, 12-month contract at $25/hr with consistent scheduling and a front-row seat to technology most people only read about.
𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲
– You take driving seriously and have a clean motor vehicle record (MVR) to prove it
– You stay calm and alert for a full shift, even when nothing seems to be happening
– You notice small things: a vehicle behaving oddly, a system flag, a subtle environmental change
– You want to be part of something bigger than a commute, without sitting at a desk
– You thrive on routine and structure but stay sharp enough to act fast when it counts
– You are comfortable with early mornings, late nights, or weekend schedules depending on your shift
This role is NOT for you if you need constant variety, struggle to stay focused during calm stretches, or have anything on your driving record that concerns you.
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗢𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝘆
You will join the Austin AV operations team as a Safety Driver on a set weekly schedule (Tue-Sat or Fri-Mon). Every shift, you prep the vehicle, head out on Austin roads, monitor the autonomous driving system in real time, and submit detailed daily reports. You are the last line of safety and the first source of on-the-ground data for engineers improving the system. Your observations directly shape product development.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼
– Operate AV test vehicles safely and lawfully across various Austin road environments and weather conditions
– Monitor autonomous system behavior in real time and intervene immediately when safety requires it
– Complete daily vehicle prep: safety checks, system readiness verification, equipment inspection
– Interact with riders, field engineers, and operations leads to relay real-time feedback
– Submit detailed shift reports documenting system performance, anomalies, and environmental observations
– Stay fully alert and distraction-free throughout every shift
𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦
𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱:
– Valid US driver's license held for at least 3 years
– Clean driving record: no DUI or drug/alcohol-related offenses in the last 5 years (MVR will be run upfront)
– Excellent knowledge of Austin-area traffic laws and road conditions
– Authorized to work in the US; background check and drug screening required
– Available for full-time schedule: Tue-Sat (8 hrs/day) or Fri-Mon (10 hrs/day)
𝗕𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀:
– Experience with autonomous vehicles, motorsports, ATVs, or side-by-sides
– Defensive or advanced driving certifications
– Prior data collection or field testing experience
– Technical familiarity with vehicle systems or control interfaces
𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗕𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗙𝗜𝗧𝗦
𝗣𝗮𝘆: $25.00 per hour
𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲: Tuesday-Saturday (8 hrs/day) or Friday-Monday (10 hrs/day), 40 hrs/week; Friday-Monday is urgently hiring
𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
– AM: 5:00 am-1:30 pm, 5:30 am-2:00 pm, 6:00 am-2:30 pm, 6:30 am-3:00 pm (and 4:30 am-3:00 pm on Fri-Mon)
– PM: 3:30 pm-12:00 am, 4:00 pm-12:30 am (and 2:30 pm-1:00 am on Fri-Mon)
