Job Overview
Join our vibrant after school program team as an After School Program Driver! In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for safely transporting children to and from school and program activities, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the journey. Duties
- Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles in accordance with traffic laws and transportation safety regulations
- Transport students to designated locations, including schools, community centers, and extracurricular activities
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and emergency stop procedures
- Maintain a clean, mechanically sound vehicle by conducting regular inspections and reporting issues promptly
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and colleagues to ensure smooth daily operations
- Enforce student discipline policies and behavior management strategies during transit to promote safety and positive conduct
- Have a current SD driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record. Report any driving violations to the Director, within 24 hours. Failure to report may result in disciplinary action.
- Maintain confidentiality of all families and staff.
- Cell phone use is prohibited while driving.
Requirements
- Must be able to pass a background test
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience in bus driving or commercial driving preferred
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws
- Certification in first aid, CPR, and defensive driving techniques; willingness to obtain or maintain certifications as needed
- Experience working with children or in childcare settings; ability to manage student behavior positively
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for wheelchair assistance or vehicle maintenance tasks
- Strong communication skills
- Familiarity with school policies, student discipline procedures, and emergency response protocols related to transportation

Pay: $15.00 – $17.00 per hour
